Programs Available: Choose from our two exceptional au pair programs in New Zealand, with a minimum duration of 6 months and a maximum of 12 months. Upon arrival, all au pairs are required to attend a mandatory 3-day orientation program, providing essential training and guidance.
- Au Pair 123: Ideal for au pairs passionate about caring for children under the age of 5. Join our New Zealand government-approved curriculum designed specifically for this age group. As an au pair in the Au Pair 123 program, you will play a pivotal role in implementing this curriculum with your host family, ensuring the children’s optimal development and learning. Experience the joy of making a difference in each child’s life, nurturing their unique skills and personalities.
Benefits of the Au Pair 123 program include:
- Building a lasting bond with a young baby or child, shaping their future
- Enjoying outings and activities organized by the local au pair agency for you and your host family’s children, such as beach trips, zoo visits, and museum excursions
- Competitive salary ranging from $180.00 NZD to $220.00 NZD per week (after tax), based on hours worked
- Completion bonus upon successfully completing your placement term
- Working hours typically range from 20 to 45 hours per week, including some evening babysitting
- Generous free time for socializing, exploring New Zealand’s numerous attractions, and enjoying at least one weekend off per month.
- Au Pair Mate: Perfect for au pairs interested in caring for school-age children (older than 5 years) who attend school during the day. As an Au Pair Mate, your duties may include babysitting, school drop-offs and pick-ups, homework assistance, and engaging in after-school activities.

- Generally fewer working hours during the week, allowing ample time to explore the beauty of New Zealand
- Opportunity to study during your spare time
- Engaging with school-age children, sharing different learning experiences

- Salary ranging from $120.00 NZD to $200.00 NZD per week, depending on hours worked
- Working hours typically range from 20 to 45 hours per week, including some evening babysitting
- Generous free time for socializing, exploring attractions, and enjoying regular days off.
General Au Pair Duties: As an au pair, your primary responsibility is caring for the children of your host family. Typical duties include waking the children, assisting with getting dressed, preparing meals, tidying communal areas, taking children to school and activities, playing with them, assisting with homework, enforcing family rules, providing evening babysitting, helping with grocery shopping, and managing children’s clothes and bedding. Please note that you are not responsible for general housework unrelated to the children or communal areas.
Accommodations: You will reside with your host family in their home, enjoying the comfort of your own bedroom. Living with a local family provides a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in New Zealand’s culture, values, and people. It allows for a valuable exchange of knowledge and traditions, enabling you to learn from them while sharing your own cultural background.
Holidays: During your 12-month placement term, you are entitled to 4 weeks of holiday. Many host families also invite their au pairs to join them on family vacations, providing an excellent chance to explore New Zealand alongside genuine Kiwis.
Application Requirements – Applicants must:
- Be between 18 – 30 years old
- Have a clean police record
- Have minimum experience of 100 hours caring for children for Au pair Mate or 200 hours for Au pair 123
Your Application
To start your adventure, request and complete the application forms. The following forms are required:
- Completed application form
- Dear Host Family letter (should include your hobbies, activities, family background, childcare experience, any special sports, musical, or arts & crafts talents, etc.)
- At least two childcare references
- Photo(s) of yourself. (Professional pictures or those with children, family members etc. are best.)
- Criminal record check (contact your local police station).
- Medical form
- Photocopy of any school or training certificates
- A copy of your current drivers license (if you have one)
- A copy of your passport
Your chosen host family will be curious to learn to about your background and life at home. Please complete your forms as fully as possibly.
